Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Neuro Physiotherapy and how is it different from normal physiotherapy?
Neurological Physiotherapy focuses on the treatment of conditions that affect the brain spinal cord or peripheral nerves. We have a deep understanding of how a neurological condition or injury may affect you physically, mentally and emotionally and our therapy consists of a variety of different approaches to help you improve or manage these challenges. Our team has completed lots of additional training in order to specialise in working with these conditions. We use a combination of exercise, rehabilitation technology, sport or physical activity, targeted goal setting, motivational interviewing and education to best support you.
How long will a session take?
We want you to get the most out of your sessions and will therefore recommend a duration of appointment which will best suit you. We currently run 45 or 60 minute appointments so whatever works for you best. Our assessments are thorough and will normally take around 1 hour, we will discuss frequency of visits with you and develop a therapy plan during the initial session.
What will happen at my appointment?
The initial assessment will consist of an open discussion in which we endeavour to learn about you and how your condition affects you as well as taking some information about your medical history. We will also want to know what you’d like to achieve through physiotherapy (no goal is too large), so do have a think about this before your assessment. By the end of your first session we aim to set a plan in place to aid your recovery.
How often should I see a physiotherapist?
We want you to get the most out of your sessions and therefore, will recommend how frequently we suggest having physio. We are flexible in our approach and will work around what suits you in terms of your lifestyle, family and other commitments.
Do I need a referral from a Doctor?
You do not need a referral from a doctor to engage with our services. There may be times where we will contact your GP to refer you for a certain check up or procedure but we will engage with them upon your consent to do so.
What training do physiotherapists have?
Our therapists are all highly trained in the field of neurological physiotherapy. All have a Bsc degree and some of our team also have a Masters degree. Further to that we commit to training our team members to a high level in a variety of areas in order to provide the best possible care. Our team has a varied skill mix and experience, with both junior and senior therapists working collaboratively. Our team are all registered with the Health Care professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP).
Do you accept insurance?
We no longer work with insurers directly, however should you wish to use insurance there are some insurers that will allow you to recoup some/all of the cost of your sessions yourself. We can support you with this process so please call to discuss.
What payment methods do you accept?
We will never ask for payment on the day, we always invoice on a monthly basis for however many sessions were completed within that month. The invoice can either be posted or emailed to you which will outline how much is owed. This can either be settled via bank transfer, over the phone or cheque – whichever is easiest.
Can I bring someone with me?
Of course! Foundations Physio believe that working with your surrounding support and family is extremely important for getting the most out of your sessions. We completely appreciate that family and loved ones will want to be involved in your care and we are more than happy to work alongside them through your journey to recovery.
What do I wear to an appointment?
Whatever is comfortable! We recommend something that is easy for you to move in and that you feel comfortable in. If you are coming to one of our classes please ensure you bring some water!
